poetry club "float" making was awesome today. it was certainly slipshod and last minute, but all the hard work and trouble just put me in a great mood and made me laugh harder.
to start off with, we got tons of paper off the rolls in the media center. exited to asha's car, then traveled to her house. there we proceeded to shape chicken wire into a cylinder, cut it with wirecutters, wrap it with the aforementioned paper held together by the almighty power of duct tape. simultaneously, two banners for the front and rear of the car were being painted. the actual deadline for the lineup for the parade was about 3:30, but the thing actually started at 4:30...so we ended up getting there at around 4:35.
it was a bit hectic and stressful on the way - both the front and back banners came off at the speed we were traveling at, and we had to quickly stop the car to pull them inside.
also(and this was a major point of pride and amusement), the large can mentioned earlier(the chicken wire tube) was too large to fit in the car(it had to be sized to accommodate thomas h.), so it ended up on the roof. since we didn't have bungee cords or the like, we just sort of strung it up with some twine and held on to it through the sunroof. of course, with such wind at the speed we were going, it wasn't really holding very well, so we stopped the car again. after some maneuvering, the "can" was sticking through the sunroof, with a person inside so that it wouldn't fly off from the air resistance. it was so exhilarating, though i was freaked out some of the time, thinking that the can was gonna end up crushing and squishing/maiming people.
we got to the parade just in time to find out that the line up was no longer in progress, and we thought we were getting kicked out, until they told us to wait in a nearby parking lot to join in at the end. we had a while before it started though, so we fixed up things as best we could. i credit most of the success to the duct tape XD. hopefully asha's car wasn't too maimed by the removal process later.
the rest of the parade went off without much trouble, though a few times the can had to be touched up a bit. i have pictures that i'll have to share later. sadly i was only able to get some after the parade was over, so everything's in the worst possible state, but we were rushed in the beginning, so i had no time for photography.

wow, this turned out kinda long...
